Endemic in the Tsushima Islands of Nagasaki Prefecture in Japan, the Tsushima Leopard Cat has been declared endangered since 1994. During that year, this subspecie of the leopard cat has been included in the official list of National Endangered Species of Japan. The following year, a conservation project plan has been facilitated by the Japanese government, under the supervision of the Ministry of the Environment, in order to save the Tsushima Leopard Car from extinction. These cats are actually hunted for their fur, and together with the degradation of their natural habitat, these factors may eventually phase them out of the planet.
