In Japan, the flyer culture has been forgotten a long time. They have the tissue-pack marketing strategy, which is a type of guerilla marketing that has replaced flyers since the 1960s. Instead of just plain flyers or papers that people usually just throw away, the advertisements are printed on tissue packs, which are handed directly to people. The idea was attributed to Hiroshi Mori, the founder of Meisei Industrial Co., a paper-goods manufacturer in Kochi Prefecture. According to him, tissues are useful to consumers, so they tend to keep the packs with the advertisements instead of discarding them upon being read.
