The Japanese music scene has newcomers. Or, well, old-timers?
Rishiri Boys, a Japanese hip hop group based in Northern Hokkaido, inspires ojii-chans as the aging fishermen of Rishiri Island band together to promote local pride, all while showing off their trendy styles.
The 3-member group is comprised of Menko-E, Ganze and Konbuappekacha. With 77 years old Menko-E as the youngest member and 91 years old Konbuappekacha as the oldest, Japan’s aging population won’t stop them from taking the music industry by storm.
Their first song, “We are Rishiri Boys”, showcases Rishiri Island’s culture and reminds us young ones that ‘cool’ only gets better with time.
