The Nomura's Jellyfish is a gigantic jellyfish under the order rhizostomae, which are jellyfish that have arms instead of tentacles.
When fully grown, the diameter of the Nomura's Jellyfish is just slightly taller than an average human being. It got its name from Kannichi Nomura, the then Director General of the Fukui Prefectural Fisheries Experimental Station. He deserved the name when he found this specimen and sent it to Professor Kishinouye, through a 72-liter wooden tank. Kishinouye discovered that the specie is unknown yet in December 1921 and thus spent time studying the animal.
