Bananas are one of the nutritious fruits for dessert and ingredients in cooking. Usually, you used to eat the fleshy fruit center but not the skin or peel, because, it's not edible or leathery in texture. But there's a type of Banana with an edible skin that is only grown in Okayama Prefecture, Japan where a company called D & T farm used a method named "Freeze-Thaw Awakening" that allowed the fruit to grow in cooler climates. The skin is easy to eat although it has no taste.
Mongee bananas are sweeter than the regular bananas and contain 24.8 grams of sugar versus the 18.3 grams found in regular bananas. The skin of this special banana is thin and edible. The advantage of this banana growing in a cooler climate is that they have no natural predators and thus no need for pesticides. Mongee banana sells for 648 yen or $5.70.
