In Japan, there is a native pony called Misaki. They are just small, measuring just up to 13 hands in height. Most of them are colored bay, black, or chestnut. In very rare occasions, misakis with white markings can be seen.
They have been believed to have evovled from the horses that came from China. There are eight species of horses that are considered native to Japan, and the Misaki is one of them. Currently, there are a number of misakis roaming around the Cape Toi in Miyazaki Prefecture.
Misakis are wild horses that believes to be a descendant of the Army Horses. Unfortunately, they are now considered endangered.
