McRefugee is a phenomenon in Japan and Hong Kong, China where people sleep in the 24-hour McDonalds fast food due to the high cost of living and rents. In Japanese, McRefugee is called Maku nanmin or マック難民 in Hiragana script. Most of these overnight staying people are regular customers. The term McRefugee has been replaced in Japan by the term net cafe refugee who lives in Japan's net cafes where it can provide comfort and shower.
