78-year-­old Masafumi Nagasaki is the only resident of a tropical island located at the southern tip of Okinawa, Japan. Asked by VICE, Nagasaki said he would rather obey the demands of nature than of another person, which led him to escape civilization and live on Sotobanari Island. From there, he las led his own kind of lifestyle he wanted to have for over two decades, and one means choosing not to wear clothes.

Sotobanari is one of the Yayema Islands. It is located within the Sakishama Islands, at the southern end of Ryuku Islands, and its nearest large neighbor is Iriomote. Sotobanari is part of Okinawa Prefecture
