The Japanese mountain mole is a species of mammal that is endemic to Japan. It can often be seen in the isolated montane of Honshu. Montanes are actually any ecosystem formed in mountainous areas. The montanes wherein these Japanese mountain moles can be found, are in primary and secondary forests of low to high elevations. There are also Japanese mountain moles that can be found in alpine grasslands.
This species is considered rare and its population continues to decrease as its habitat continues to suffer destruction due to deforestation and absence of any conservation effort.
