Buddhist Monks used to be the first caretakers of these short-tailed domestic cats way back 1,000 years ago.

They were called Japanese Bobtails because their tails are like those of the rabbit's. This cat specie is very warm and friendly, a pefect companion at home.

The short tails make them more kawaii. A feline famous icon, Maneki Neko was adapted in the figure of a Japanese Bobtail. Hello Kitty is also said to be a Japanese Bobtail, as well as Muta from the movie The Cat Returns from Studio Ghibli.
