Japan's oldest elephant, Hanako, was 69 years old before she passed away last May 26, 2016.
Hanako was a gift from the government of Thailand given in 1949, after World War II. It was said that she had been a symbol of peace because she had given smiles, laughters and dreams to children after the war.
Her first home was the Ueno Zoo in Tokyo. In 1954, she was transferred to Inokashira Park Zoo in Tokyo., where she died peacefully.
Five days before her death, the zoo management was planning a party for her 69th birthday. But due to her declining health, they canceled the evet.
