Age doesn’t matter for the Japanese band ‘Golden Senior Trio’ as they continue to play despite their old age.
The Golden Senior Trio is composed of Naosuke Miyamoto on bass, Zensho Otsuka on piano, and Naoteru Nabeshima on the vibraphone. The members are 78, 81 and 89 years old, setting the latest Guinness World Record for the oldest band as they unseat the Peace Old Jazz Band from China. The previous record holder’s average age of 76 years is young, compared to the Kansai jazz performers’ 83 years and 19 days (as of July 5, 2015).
The band was formed in 2008, after a jazz fan requested the members to play together. The band has since then been active, and even declared having no intention of retiring yet, as they aim to stay active in their old age, an inspiration to Japan’s aging population.
