Fly fishing in Japan is not a traditional sport in Japan. Back in 1980s, fly fishing pro shops were non-existent in the cities of Japan.
Although not very popular, fly fishing could be successfully done in the country's streams where fishes can easily be sighted with the clear waters. It may sound easy but it is actually a little more tricky than traditional fishing. You have to study the behavior of the different fishes you wish to target since you use artificial flies as bait and not live bait nor artificial lure. However, you cannot use just any artificial fly. There are suitable flies which are chosen based on their buoyancy.
It might take some time to practice but that's what the mountain streams in Japan are for.
