Hiking in Hokkaido, the northernmost prefecture of Japan, is made even more fun when you spot tiny critters like this, jumping in the flower beds like there is no tomorrow.
The Ezo Risu (Hokkaido squirrel) is a subspecies of red squirrels found in the forests of Hokkaido. Like their European cousins, the ezo rizu also makes it a habit to bury their food in preparation for winter. Most of the time though, these food stashes are forgotten by their original owners, and its contents would be consumed by another hungry squirrel.
