Ezo momonga is a subspecies of the Japanese flying squirrel, which is endemic to Hokkaido. This kawaii (cute) little critter is so popular that it is the mascot for Sapporo's rechargeable IC card, Kitaca.
They are just small, growing to a maximum length of 20 centimeters, and develop a membrane connecting its wrists and ankles, enabling them to glide or fly from one tree to another.
They like creating their nests in cavities of tree trunks of conifer trees, like aspine and spruce. They put mosses and lichens in their nests too.
