Ezo Kitsune, or also known as the Hokkaido Fox, is famous in Japanese folklore as magical creatures that has shapeshift abilities. Like the tanukis, they can also transform into any form, but they are considered to be more foolish than the tanukis.

They are usually found in Mount Fiji but they have relatives in Hokkaido and cousins in Honshu. Unlike their relatives, they are actually approachable foxes. They learn fast where to get their food.

Their tracks are also easy to detect. They actually create a dotted straight line in sand, mud or snow, which reveals where they might have gone, carefully placing one foot in the same place as another. Sometimes, if there is a pair of foxes, they will step exactly where the first one did, making it really difficult to detect how many animals have passed.
