The Ezo Fukuro is a specie of owls native to the Hokkaido prefecture in the Land of the Rising Sun. The term Ezo or ezochi is actually the old name of the Hokkaido prefecture, which has been changed in the middle of the nineteenth century. The term fukurou is a Japanese word meaning, "owl." The Ezo Fukuro is one of the ten species of owls that are currently found in the Hokkaido Prefecture. They are also sometimes known as the ural owl. Being owls, they are primarily nocturnal but there are quite a few instances when they become active during the day.
