Being the name behind titles like Rashomon (1950), Ikiru (1952), Seven Samurai (1954) and Yojimbo (1961), Akira Kurosawa had been one of the most influential auteur filmmakers in the history of world cinema. In his 88 years of existence, he had produced a total of 30 high quality Japanese films, in the span of 57 years in the movie industry. He started his career in 1936, as an assistant director and scriptwriter to various other Japanese filmmakers. In 1943, shortly after the war, he debuted as a directed in the film Sanshiro Sugata, also known as Judo Saga. After 5 years, he made his first film with actor Toshiro Mifune, entitled Drunken Angel (1948), and had since been partners.
