The Akaushi is the red-meat cow breed of Japan. It is one of the four breeds known as the Wagyu cattle in Japan.
Also known as the Emperor's Breed, they only existed in Japan until 1994 when 8 female cows and 3 male cows were shipped to the United States for a beef company in Texas.
The beef from these cows marble fast, meaning the fat is actually located inside the muscle and not on the outside, making it one of the best meats for restaurants. This is also a signature trait of the Akaushi.
