Airbnb (an online marketplace for lodging, tourism, and homestays) is offering volunteers to join a science mission to Antartica. There are no qualifications required except for the willingness to apply, an adventurous spirit and a passion for the environment. Dubbed the Antartic Sabbatical, the journey to Antartica will be sponsored by Ocean Conservancy and Airbnb. Volunteers will join Kirstie Jones-Williams, an Antartic Scientist, in December. They will be expected to collect samples of snow to study. The goal of the Antarctic Sabbatical mission is to raise awareness about the impact of human's activities on the environment and also to understand microplastics that have their way to the most isolated continent on earth.
The expedition will be month-long and will cover the following events:
1. Immersion training in Punta Arenas, Chile - participants will study courses on field sampling, glaciology, equipment practice and lab work.
2. Fly to Antartica
3. Collecting samples of snow
4. Visiting the South Pole
5. Exploring Antartic sites such as Elephant's head, Drake Icefall, and Charles Peak winds coop.
