Released on March 3, 2017 in Japan, We are X is a music documentary produced by the same people behind the 2013 Oscars Best Documentary Film, Searching for Sugar Man. The documentary is about X Japan, a heavy metal band from Chiba prefecture, formed by drummer Yoshiki and vocalist Toshi.

Being one of the most successful mainstream Japanese acts while being under an independent label, X Japan is considered to be one of the pioneers of the Japanese visual kei genre, a kind of music with roots from Western glam rock.
