PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen)" was first released last October 7, 2016 and was written and produced by Daimaou Kosaka, also known as Pikotaro. The music video for PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen) hit 126 million views as of October 2017 and ranked at the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart. It also became the shortest single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.
According to Kosaka, he came up with the song by sitting in his house listening to the harmony and started picking his pen and thinking of his background as Japan’s biggest apple-producing region (Aomori Prefecture). Later he realized that he has an open can of pineapples on his tables.
