The band started as a group from the J Soul Brothers when the current leader, Hiro changed the group name into Exile in 1999 upon his split from the pop group Zoo. Exile made a hit single named "Choo Choo Train" that became a popular single for the group's album called "Exile Entertainment.
This album was sold for more than a million copies. In December 2005, the group released the single "Tada Aitakute and in March 2006 "yes". In February 2007, the band released "Michi" a single which became the group's first hit single in Oricon charts. As of the current year at the time of this writing (2019), Atsushi became the longest-serving member of the band while there are retired members and new generations that succeeded the former members.
