Yakitori is the Japanese version of your favorite chicken barbecue. Yaki is the Japanese word for "grilled," while tori is the Japanese term for "chicken." But unlike the Western chicken barbecue food counterpart, the Japanese version are bite-sized chunks of skewered chicken put over flames. Aside from chicken meat, chicken offal or internal organs can also be used. The chicken is usually marinated first before grilling. There are currently two types of yakitori: the sallty and the salty-sweet. The salty type just uses salt for seasoning while the salty-sweet usese tare sauce, a special sauce made of mirin, sake, shoyu or the Japanese soy sauce and some sugar.
