Being an archipelagic country, Japan is surrounded with bodies of water. Because of this, Japan is rich with natural resources from the sea. And seaweeds are just some of them.
Wakame is one of the subtly sweet seaweeds that can be cultivated in Japan. It is said to have been serving the Japanese people for 1300 years now. Because of its swee taste, it is often served in salads, together with the custardy tofu, a dash of sesame seeds, your choice of other vegetables like tomatoes, lettuce, bell peppers, bean sprouts and other kinds of seaweeds. It is then topped with a dressing made of shoyu of Japanese soy sauce, vinegar and some oil.
