Okonomiyaki is a grilled pancake that you will surely love--literally! Okonomi actually means “how/what you like” and yaki means “grilled”. This is why a variety of ingredients can be used to make your own special version.

Okonomiyaki is associated with Kansai and Hiroshima, but you can get it all over the country. The ingredients and manner of preparation also vary from place to place. In Kansai, for example, flour, grated yam, meat and vegetables are mixed together. Meanwhile, in Hiroshima, the ingredients are layered.

Okonomiyaki has been called the Japanese pizza or the Japanese omelette by many. With its many variants, you’ll be sure to find your favorite!
