Piranhas, the most feared fish, due to their voracious and fearsome reputation depicted on the media. Schools of piranhas had been reported to attack swimmers but today in this recipe dubbed as Piranha Ramen, people will be the one who will bite piranhas. The Asakusa neighborhood in Tokyo will serve 1, 000 bowls of piranha Ramen.
Tom Yano, CEO, and founder of the Tokyo based company - Tokyo Jack came up with the idea when he vacationed in Brazil. While living in Brazil, he became infatuated with the Brazillian soup called Caldo de piranha - a common delicacy in Brazil's Pantanal region.
Mr.Yano spent $28, 000 or 3 million yen to import piranhas to Japan. He also waited 13 hours in Narita airport to wait for Japanese customs clearing.
The Brazillian cooking style involved simmering and the fish in the tomato-based soup with herbs and vegetables. Mr.Yano made the Ramen by collaborating with the chefs of Naritaya Ramen shop that is a popular restaurant in Tokyo's Asakusa neighborhood. Piranha Ramen bowls will cost 3, 000 Yen or $28.20, fried Piranha will e 2, 5000 yen or $23.54.
Mr.Yano told that Piranha tastes good and similar to red snapper while other diners
likened the feared fish to the lemon sole. Brazilians reported that piranhas have a taste of rich creaminess.
Yano's Ninja Cafe and Bar will serve the Piranha Ramen on September 20 (5 - 9 P.M) and September 21 and 23 (11 am - 9 pm).
