Who would have thought that these ball-shaped snacks from Japan actually contain octopus? The word itself actually describes it all. It came from two Japanese words: tako meaning "octopus," and yaki meaning "fried" or "grilled." These takoyaki octopus balls are actually made of a batter from wheat flour and cooked in specially rounded mold pans. These are filled with tako or octopus, tenkasu or tempura scraps, pickled ginger and green onion. Before serving, these octopus snack balls are seasoned with a spcial takoyaki sauce, mayonnaise and goma dare or the sesame-vinegar sauce.
