Sukiyaki is another nabemono or hot pot dish from Japan. The main ingredients are thin slices of beef, slowly cooked in the hot pot, together with vegetables, shoyu or Japanese soy sauce, sugar and some mirin, or a low-alcohol sake. Sukiyaki or hot pot is usually served with a bowl of raw, beaten eggs, where the meat and vegetables are dipped first before eating. Because the meat and vegetables are hot, the egg that sticks to the meat upon dipping is somehow cooked also. Because it is a hot dish, the sukiyaki is usually enjoyed during winter and on year-end parties.
