Another world famous nabemono or hotpot Japanese dish is the shabu-shabu. The word has an onomatopoeic origin, just like a lot of Japanese words. The word is said to came from the sound created when all the ingredients of this dish are stirred in the cooking pot. Thus, the term shabu-shabu is formed. The food is composed mainly of thinly sliced beef, though some use pork, crab, shrimp, fish, lamb, chicken, duck and other meat alternatives. Shabu-shabu is served with sweet sauces and is said to be less sweet than another nabemono dish, the sukiyaki.
