Sushi is one of the famous Japanese dishes. Nigiri or nigiri-zushi is a type of sushi recognized as the hand-pressed sushi. According to Chef Taichi, a well-known master chef behind Seattle’s Kappo Tamura, technique is everything. Nigiri is characterized by having fresh fish at the top, with a touch of wasabi under the fish.
Gunkan-maki is a kind of nigiri-zushi which contains a mound of sushi rice covered with a strip of nori, and topped with a good amount of ingredients such as the sea urchin and salmon roe. Uramaki is also a kind of nigiri which is commonly characterized as “inside-out,” because of its rolled fish in the center, nori and sushi rice at the outer layer.
