Oyakodon is one of Japan's simplest comfort food. It was invented in 1891 at Tamahide as a meal of chicken and eggs over rice.
The recipe has been the standard for oyakodon recipes. Since then and it has been passed on to eight generations which kept the spirit alive.
Along with the recipe, the popularity of the restaurant has been kept alive as well. Everyday, during lunch time, there is always a line of people waiting to be served at the restaurant. The wait takes about 30 minutes up to 2 hours.
Konosuke Yamada, the current owner of Tamahide, hopes to pass down his vision to his son, grandchild and the next generations who will keep his restaurant standing for the next 50, 100 or 200 years.
