The French has their own worldwide-known version of toast. But the city of Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture would not let the French dominate the patisserie shelves with their own kind of food. Introducing the Ogura toast, a perfect combination of saltiness and sweetness in one slice of bread. The bread of the Ogura toast is coated with margarine before heating, to give the bread a good helping of saltiness. Once golden brown, some ogura or red bean or azuki bean paste is spread on top for the sweetness that balances the saltiness. Some sandwich the paste on two toasted breads for a different meal.
