The Japanese are known to value cuteness or "Kawaii" in Japanese and this is evident in the traditional Japanese food - Mochi. This circular and condiment filled food has been eaten for more than a hundred years old. Mochi constitutes various kinds depending on its filling and glutinous rice flour flavouring. Kinds of mochi include -
* Sakuramochi - Cherry blossoms flavoured and coloured
* Hishimochi - Multicolored (cape jasmine flower for red, mugwort for green and water for white)
* Ichigo Daifuku - With Anko or mashed azuki beans, whole strawberry, honey and sugar
* Anmitsu - Made with pineapple, cherries, peach, mikan (seedless orange citrus).
Mochi is becoming popular not only in Japan but in other countries where the dessert is sold in kiosks and fine dining restaurants. Mochis are also customized or design to look like the Japanese cute cartoon characters such as Pokemon and hello kitty - reasons that mochis are too cute to eat.
Note: Take a small bite size and chew mochis before swallowing as the sticky mochi can obstruct your throat.
