Japan is really known for interesting and one-of-a-kind food items. This one in the photo looks just like a drop of water, a big drop of water on a bowl. To some it may also look like a water bubble, that may pop anytime and dispense the water in the bowl. All of these guesses are wrong. This is actually a water cake, only from the Land of the Rising Sun. It is called the Mizu Shingen Mochi and is a product of Yamanashi prefecture. This clear water cake is actually jelly-like, and when served with sugar syrup and kinako or some roasted soybean flour, it becomes a treat that everyone should try.
