Mentaiko is one of the famous roe or fish egg dishes in Japan. Mentaiko, or more popularly known in the Western world as the Pollock Roe, is actually a dish of salted roe of the Alaska pollock fish or what otherwise is known as the walleye pollock. Mentaiko actually has a strong raw taste, that even salt cannot counter. Because of this, mentaiko is often served with a good drink. Mentaiko because of its strong taste, it has become a popular ingredient in a wide variety of food and dishes in the Land of the Rising Sun, including the Japanese spaghetti.
