Kamaboko is made of pureed fish that is formed into a ‘surimi’. The paste ‘surimi’, translated as ‘ground meat’, is cured and turned into a cake-like shape. Kamaboko may be steamed, grilled, poached or fried, depending on the type.
Kamabako is a traditional food that is served during celebrations and holidays as it is said to bring good luck. It is also used as a side dish to many dishes. In this video by MasterchefTV, the hard work and dedication of the artisans as they make the kamaboko.
