The Japanese term kushikatsu actually came from two different words, which are combined to produce a new meaning. Kushis are the skewers or elongated pieces of bamboo or metal used in cooking. Katsu, on the other hand, are deep-fried cutlets of any kind of meat: pork, beef, chicken. When put together, kushikatsus are those skewered meat you can enjoy with tonkatsu sauce, anytime, anywhere, in every season. Most of the meat used are dipped in egg first, and then coated with flour and lastly with panko, or the Japanese bread crumbs. These are then deep-fried to golden brown perfection.
