Meringue are crunchy and sweet icing bite-sized pieces which has Swiss, Italian and French origins. But in terms of satisfying the sweet tooth of patrons, Japan will not be left behind. The Land of the Rising Sun also has its own version of sweet icing or meringue, and they call it Karume yaki. Just like the normal French or Swiss or Italian meringue, the karume yaki is made of egg whites and baking soda mixed softly in water. But Japan has put their own signature on these sweet treats. The karume yaki has that combined texture of cookies and honeycomb.
