Kamameshi is another authentic rice meal from Japan. This dish came from two Japanese words: kama meaning "iron pot" or "kettle," and meshi which means "meal." Putting those two words together, kamameshi is a complete rice meal cooked in a kettle or iron pot. The food is said to have originated in Takeshitakama, also known as Okunamikama. The Japanese either eat straight from the kama or put the rice first in bowls. The dish is said to have came from the communal eating that happened after the 1923 Great Kantou earthquake.
