Edamame is actually the fruit that bears the soy beans. It actually consists of two Japanese words, eda, which means "branch" or "stem" and mame, which means "bean." When combined, the term edamame is actually more popularly known as the dish, composed of this kind of vegetable. Just like any other organic ingredient, edamames taste the best when served straight from the farm. They are usually just boiled or steamed, before being served with salt for some flavor. Some blanch it with a bit of salty water, to save the maker of serving the dish with salt.
