The city of Nagoya in the Aichi Prefecture of Japan has given the Italian spaghetti an oriental twist.
Called as ankake spaghetti, the Nagoya version uses fried thick noodles while the sauce is made spicier and thicker as well. The consistency of the sauce is said to be similar to those in Chinese dishes.
The spiciness comes from bell peppers, a signature characteristic of the Nagoyan taste. It is then mixed with vienna sausages, and onions, to retain the Western taste. Some use piccata or the ebi-furai shrimp as alternative. Some are topped with a number of vegetables for a more colorful food presentation.
