The Lolita fashion subculture in Japan is actually based in the European Victorian and Edwardian style of clothing. The subculture fashion statement was said to have originated when world-famous fashion labels like Pink House, Milk, and Angelic Pretty entered the scene during the late 1970s.
Two decades after, Princess Princess and other fashionable label invaded Tokyo and thus encouraged the Japanese youth to embrace the Lolita fashion more. Also during this time was the sub-style GothLoli or Gothic Lolita rose into fame in Harajuku, the fashion capital of Japan. It is actually a combination of the gothic fashion and the Lolita style.
