Akira Isogawa is a Japanese expatriate who moved to Australia in 1986 to study Fashion Design at the Sydney Institute of Technology. He is now known as one of Australia's most iconic designers. His Western training draws inspiration from contemporary Japanese design to create the East-meets-West aesthetic that he is best known for.
He opened his own store in Woollahra, Sydney in 1993. By 1998, he has shown his collections in fashion shows all over the world. He has had a number of awards including Designer of the Year, Australian Fashion Laureate, and Fashion Excellence Award. Today, he is a prominent designer in Sydney. He continues to design women's clothing for his commercial fashion label, Akira.
