Golden Week Day 1: Jumpstarting the Golden Week on April 29 is the Showa Day. Every year on this day, the people commemorate the birthday of Emperor Hirohito, the Japanese ruler from 1926 - 1989. There are really no particular happenings on this day but most Japanese people are out on vacation spots starting this day.
