The Japanese not only do rite of passage celebrations when they are 20 years old. A traditional event called Shichi-Go-San (literally, 7-5-3) is celebrated every November 15 by children who are three, five and seven years old. Since the day is not a national holiday, the Japanese usually celebrate this on the nearest weekend. During the event children wear kimonos, for the first time, to visit shrines.
