Sendai Tanabata Matsuri is the most eminent and one of the largest tanabata celebrations in Japan. The colorful streamers and decorations signals the festival within shopping centers of Sendai. Smaller decorations symbolizes luck and wishes such as kimono to ward-off bad health and accidents, a net for rich harvest, cranes for good life, purse for good business, a trashbag for cleanliness, and paper strips for good handwriting. They can write their wishes on colorful strips of paper and hang or tie it in bamboo poles or on these streamers.
