Seijin no Hi is being celebrated in Japan as the "Coming of Age Day Ceremony". It is a public holiday that occurs every second of January. It celebrates people coming of age at 20. Young people who turned 20 are officially adults in Japanese society and now have responsibilities as well as liberties. They are now able to drink, smoke, go to hostess bars, gamble and drive legally. 20-year-olds dress up and visit a shrine or attend a municipal ceremony to honor themselves as they reach adulthood. The girls always wear gorgeous and expensive kimono, but most of them admit that they rent an outfit that is worth 1,000,000 yen. The boys wear kimono too but the majority wears a regular suit and tie.
