This is one way the Japanese celebrate the New Year's eve. This started in a legend, when foxes across Japan gathered under a huge tree and visited Oji Inari-jinja Shrine, in the Oji area of Kita-ku, during New Year's eve in human disguise. It is held every year to instill the old culture into the modernization of Japanese society. Participants parade the streets holding lanterns, wishing for a year of hope, great life, and happiness of children.
