Kurama Fire Festival

The Kurama Fire Festival is an annual event in Kyoto Prefecture's Kurama area. It is where the youth is tested in strength and bravery using fire - the act is considered to be rite of passage. Also happening in the festivities is a reenactment of a certain historical ceremony held in the village in year 970.
